About Us

Medstar started in 1993, when two local hospitals realized effective EMS care delivery had outgrown what communities could provide or afford on their own. They built a not-for-profit to solve it. Thirty years later, Medstar is Michigan's leader in 911 EMS, critical care transport, and interfacility transportation.

Medstar is governed by a Board of Directors that includes emergency physicians, nurses, healthcare leaders, and community representatives from our service area. They keep leadership focused on what matters: clinical quality, patient outcomes, staff development, safety, and patient experience.

Working with our Board and Physician Advisory Council, we build treatment models and care approaches that stay current with emergency and critical care medicine. We also work alongside local medical control authorities and EMS associations across the state to advance care and safety in the communities we serve. We invest in our people with advanced training, the most current clinical equipment, and the safest emergency vehicles in the field.

From the physicians who guide the organization to every clinician and support team member, the job is clear: deliver safe, effective care to the patients and families counting on us.

Medstar serves patients, communities, and healthcare facilities across Bay, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Genesee, Lapeer, Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties, answering more than 255,000 requests for service each year.

Our reputation as the region's quality leader comes from one thing: showing up for our patients, our team members, and the patients that trust us.
