Medstar donates an AED to the Salvation Army Great Lakes Harbor Light

Medstar proudly donated an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to the Salvation Army Great Lakes Harbor Light System as part of its ongoing Shock and Save Community Initiative. The donation supports the organization’s mission to help those struggling with addiction. Every day in America, over 6,500 people are hospitalized for substance abuse. 1 in 11 Michigan adults struggle with drug or alcohol dependency. Harbor Light provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals and families looking to recover from substance abuse.
According to Site Administrator, Danielle Penz, the site can facilitate up to 120 adults and it offers a continuum of care that is tailored to meet the specific needs of each client. They offer short and long-term residential, outpatient and intensive outpatient, residential aftercare, family supportive services and sub-acute detoxification.
Medstar CEO, Kolby Miller, acknowledged that the donation of the AED seemed a natural fit for the facility and that “Harbor Light is not just an important community resource, but an important part of the healthcare system. The more AEDs we can get into the community, the more lives will be saved”.
The Community Shock and Save Community Initiative provides mini-grants to purchase and donate AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator) to schools, churches, non-profit and civic organizations within the Medstar coverage area.
