Medstar donates AED’s to the Macomb Foster Closet and Trinity Lutheran Church

Macomb Foster Closet Board Member, Kevin McAlpine
& EMT Skyler McAlpine

On Thursday, May 15, 2025, an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was awared to the Macomb Foster Closet in Mount Clemens, MI. This AED donation is especially meaningful to the Medstar team. EMT Skyler McAlpine, a valued Medstar team member, was adopted through the foster care system by Kevin McAlpine – who also served as a Medstar EMT earlier in his career. Their shared commitment to service and giving back to the foster care community reflects the values both families and first responders hold dear.
The Macomb Foster Closet is an all-volunteer nonprofit 501c3 organization providing much-needed clothing and other essential items free to children in foster care and the amazing families that care for them. In addition, they also provide additional services throughout the year such as loaded school backpacks, birthday bags, Easter baskets, and holiday gifts.
On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Medstar awarded an AED to Trinity Lutheran Church in Davison, MI. Pastor Todd Frusti applied for Medstar’s Shock & Save Community AED Initiative Grant based on recommendations from fellow clergymen. “Trinity Lutheran Church is committed to glorifying the Triune God and expanding His kingdom by Growing in God’s Word and sacraments, Serving one another and Sharing with all people the Good News of Jesus Christ .”
Both these organizations applied for Medstar’s Shock & Save Community AED Initiative grant. Medstar has provided mini-grants to purchase AEDs for local civic, educational, and religious facilities for the past eight years and is now inviting the community to support the program’s expansion. The Medstar Shock and Save Initiative is designed to measurably increase cardiac arrest survival throughout Medstar’s emergency service area. To increase AED access and utilization. To increase CPR and AED training and to support community leaders in local efforts to increase cardiac arrest survival and expand community CPR/AED training and AED ordinances.
“Medstar recognizes community AED placement as the most important component of increasing cardiac arrest survival throughout our nine-county service area,” said Kolby Miller, Medstar CEO. “We’re incredibly thankful for our healthcare and community partners for helping us expand this vital initiative. The more AEDs we can get into the community, the more lives will be saved.”
